Our journey to Southern Africa - part 7:

Harare
When we came to Harare we found a phone box and and called Barbo. as she told us to. Her husband, Jack, came to pick us up. We were allowed to stay in their guest room, a nice room with its own bathroom. The rest of the day we just relaxed, it was nice to spend a few days in "civilized environments" before we were going home.
Monday December 29.
Relaxing day. Richard, Jack's grandson who is at my age, and his mother: Mell came by. Richard and I played badminton, played in the pool, and had a nice time together. We planned to eat dinner with them, but the restaurant was closed.
Tuesday December 30.
Since this was our last day in Africa we thought to see some of Harare. First we went to the university. It was quite large. We actually found someone that had contact with some of mom's colleagues here in Oslo. After we had seen the university we took a bus to town. There we saw the Harare gardens, but mostly walked around buying souvenirs. We walked around in town all day, and in the evening we ate dinner at Ramambo Lodge restaurant. There we ate game meat, mom had guinea fowl and I had zebra, warthog, wildebeest and kudu. It all tasted good. When we came back to Barbo's place that evening we had bought so many souvenirs that we had had to buy a suitcase as well. The suitcase was nice and cheap, and we would not have been able to fill it, if we had not bought a huge bag of nasty cheese doodles the other day. Barbo was quite embarrassed, and insisted the snack was not representative for the taste of Harare! At least we can guarantee that all what she served was of a far better quality, and so was any thing else we had in Africa.
Going home
Wednesday December 31.
In the morning Barbo drove us to the airport. (If you ever fly from Harare, click here.) From there we flew to Johannesburg, and from Johannesburg to London. At the plane to London they celebrated the new year with champagne at 0:00 GMT., which was 02.00 South African time. Unfortunately the air staff had not informed us carefully of this, so almost everyone was asleep.
Thursday January 1.
We came to London ca. 6 am. It was quite boring to wait for tree hours when not even the shops was open. At 9 am we left for Oslo. On the plane there was very few passengers, so we could use as much space as we wanted. When we came home my father picked us up. At his place we ate salt meat the Norwegian way. In April Barbo and Richard came to Norway, and Richard stayed with us for a few days, he also came with me to school one day. All in all our trip had been a great success and we experienced a lot.
