December 1997 Bodil (my mother) and I made a
trip around in Southern Africa. The main reason for this was that my grandpa (I
will refer to him as "Morfar" in the text because it means grandpa in
Norwegian, and the guys grandpa lived with in Cape Town thought that was a funny
word.) was 70 the fourth of December, and he wanted to go to Cape Town as usual
(He is in Cape Town from October to April every year, and lives there with some
guys, Chris, Marius and Peter, that he once met at Mykonos, as he doesn't like
the Norwegian winter.). Therefore Bodil and I decided to surprise him by coming
to Cape Town without him knowing it. Of course we had talked to the guys he
lives with. Since we were going to South Africa anyway we also decided to travel
a bit around in the rest of Southern Africa. So half a year after we had planned
this, we left for Cape Town with only one thing decided for the trip: After
having spent one week in Cape Town, we were to go to the Okawango Delta on the
18th. We also wanted to see Victoria Falls, and hoped to end in Harare.
This was our route: Cape Town, Garden route by car to Port Elizabeth, flight to Gaborone, train to Francistown, bus to Maun, small airplane to the Okawango Delta, small airplane back to Maun, flight to Victoria Falls, train to Bulawaio, bus to Harare, flight home.
